dAS
The DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) system is based on the principle of coherent Rayleigh scattering. When external sound waves (vibrations) act on the optical fiber, they alter its spatial structure, causing localized vibrations within the fiber and resulting in phase changes in the Rayleigh backscattered light signal.
When light of a specific intensity is injected into the fiber, the Rayleigh backscattered echoes are received. These echoes carry information about the vibrations occurring along the fiber. By demodulating the phase variations of the optical signal, the system can not only determine the exact location of the vibration event but also reconstruct the vibration (acoustic) information in the affected area.
